Wrapped In Social Media
This project combined digital design and traditional silk screen printing. The concept for this piece is that we are all lost or hiding ourselves in social media. Some of us even live our lives through it on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. I created two screens digitally which I later burned into silk screens to print on four yards of linen fabric. One screen contained the names of top newspaper brands and a rectangle collage for the background, and the other contained some popular social media icons which I spot colored to make them stand out against the charcoal color print in the background. This combination created the busy chatter I see as social media.
This image is positioned inside the Media School of Indiana University Bloomington. the combination of the large multi-screen television and empty chairs in a social area add to the number of social media distractions a person uses while ignoring anyone around them.
